Gerber File Requirements

Gerber files are a guide to building a stacked layered PCB.

CUSTOMER GUIDELINES - Gerber Files

The companion aperture files specify which tools to use when making your PCB.

• Drill Chart with PCB Outline and Dimensions.

• PCB Specifications with Stackup (including visual representation of buried/blind via’s, if needed).
This info can be combined with Drill Chart items on same layer, if desired.

• Two 40mil Fiducials should be present on the top and bottom copper layers on opposite corners of the PCBs with reliefs shown on masking layers, silkscreen should have Fid 1 and 2 identifiers on them as well (if spacing allows).

• All Gerber Layers should be properly and consistently identified and in order of how the PCB is built from top to bottom

• Drill Files should be either in the Gerbers themselves or their own folder, either way is fine as long as they are included.

Gerber File Requirements Continued

• CAD file should be created with the Gerber files and should be either in the Gerbers themselves or their own folder, either way is fine as long as they are included.

A CAD file is intelligent data that is output by design software used for PCB assembly that shows what component is place where in addition to its orientation on the PCB. This makes programming component placement or verification equipment faster and leaves less room for placement error when programming and building. These files are not required but help limit individual interpretation and subsequent questions to the customer to verify correct placement.

• PDF of all layers contained in the Gerber files should be exported, would be nice if PCB specs were separated out but not required.
